My personal best. blog #2

The time in my life that I feel I was at my best was probably when I showed at a kirkwood horse show. I had been taking Saddleseat lessons for awhile and my trainer decided it was time for me to prove my skill at showing. Saddleseat is a form of english riding similar to huntseat if you didnt know. I remember that I got to ride my favorite horse Melvin. Not alot of people could ride him because he was very picky about certain things, and the people he like best were my trainer and I.

Since there were other kids taking lessons also we had to share horses and there was one other person riding him before me. She ended up placing in the class, but left Melvin very crabby for me to ride.  The show started at 9 am and the classes I was in wasn't until later in the day, but i still stayed and watched the whole day. At around 9pm it was finally time for me to show Melvin. I saddled him and got myself dressed and we went to warm up in the practice ring. He was still being very crabby from earlier in the day, and all I could think was "Oh great its going to be a bad ride".

Now in saddleseat most of the time you are required to ride into the arena at a trot. As soon as we entered the arena he instantly calmed down and I knew than we were going to do good. He Picked up all of his leads at the lope, and did all of his transitions excellent. It sounds really cheesy but it was like floating. I was completley focused and Melvin and I bonded excellent. I've never been happier ever, nor have I felt more connected to a horse. We ended up winning the class out of three people. I could have cared less if I had won, just because I know how hard I had to work to get to that point.  Knowing that all of my hardwork payed off in the end was rewarding enough for me.

I feel that this can relate to my college career because I know that I have to buckle down and work hard to get what I want. Preperation can help me in the long run in studying for test and quizzes, and in doing this hopefully it will be rewarding in the end by helping me graduate school. The best thing in life isn't always winning, its knowing that your tried your very best to get there.

  3. I think you're right when you mention it doesn't matter if you win if you know within yourself you have put in a lot of hard work to get there. Congrats on first though! =)
