The Beloit College mind set list is both right and wrong on certain aspects in my honest opinion. Every generation has certain things that are popular during that time, and technology is constantly changing. In Order to keep up with a world that is constantly moving technology has to change, thats just the way it is. For example as the world population increases more food has to be produced. Bigger and better technology is created to make the process of growing and harvesting food quicker and more efficient.
The Beloit list to me sounds like its just someones opinions. I believe this because they assume that the 2014 generation doesnt know the anything about the classic movie stars like Clint Eastwood. I dont care who you are you honestly cant tell me that you've never seen this actor in an older movie or newer one such as Gran Torino.
They say that few in people know how to write in cursive. Now i know for a fact that most of us were taught cursive in say third grade. Therefor im betting that if you asked most of us to write in cursive now, we could all probably atleast give you our name. Now computers thats a whole diffrent story. With everything being available at the click of a mouse nothing is sacred. You can find where people live, where they work, there past speeding tickets, anything. Many of us complain that the computer is running to slow, but really i think its just nobody has any patience. Were caught up in a world that is constanly Go Go Go. Being able to find everything on the internet isnt necessarily a good, sometimes it can be an invasion of privacy. It can take away from your learning experience also. Everything can be made more simple with technology but think about, at what cost is it to you.
Colorful ribbons, DNA finger printing, second hand smoke, Walmart, sitcoms, and War are pretty much the basics of life now a days. The Beloit survey was right about some of these things. Walmart is pretty much the greatest store invented ever. Its almost impossible to not run into someone who smokes. As far as ribbons go, its like a tradition everyone wants someone else to know that they care.
The Beloit college mind set list is a good way for everyone to relize what there missing and what there not. The more the world is progressing, the more knowledge there is to intake. Its not necessarily that people have forgotten some of the things, but its just hard to remember so much, when you have to be learning new things all the time no matter what your age is.
Ohhhhh!! Now I know who Clint Eastwood is!!! Thanks so much for that! Your third paragraph is my favorite, Walmart has the best candy section ever!
ReplyDeleteI love commenting after Kizzie, such an entertaining experience! =)
ReplyDeleteI would also agree with your Walmart statement, many hours can be wasted in that place. I am also in agreement with the GO GO GO world we live in, it's crazy! Good points!
I love the comment about Clint Eastwood you made. Very few people don't know him. The majority of people know him and his movies or at least recognize him...I hope.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the cursive writing. Most people can write in cursive they just choose not to when they're not forced to in class anymore.
ReplyDeleteNice I agree with you. Whenever I find that a computer is being waaaay to slow, I just turn it around. Usually i find a glowing Apple logo on the other side, which means its time to get a different computer.
ReplyDeleteNice Kizzie! I also agree, but I must admit I already knew who he was. I also agree that this is a very opinionated article.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on your computer comment. I always complain that my internet takes forever! Haha I usually only do that when I'm in a big hurry though!
ReplyDeleteI boycotted Walmart. LOL. I have my reasons.
ReplyDeleteGood job on writing a very thoughtful blog post. You did a good job relating the items on the list with people outside of your generation. Some food for thought: As a 2014 grad what may be some challenges you face in the work force as you are required to work closely with people of different generations? What considerations may you have to make?
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of walmart because they ran randals out of business in my home town. It was like a Hy-vee but better.
